Violence

Gun violence is the leading cause of death for young Hispanic males.

Hispanic youth who have recently immigrated or are experiencing acculturation stress may face additional challenges, such as language barriers, discrimination, and cultural adjustment difficulties, which can contribute to feelings of frustration and anger.

It is important to note that youth violence is a complex issue and cannot be attributed solely to one specific cause. However, some potential factors that may contribute to youth violence among Hispanics include:
Socioeconomic factors, economic disparities, poverty, limited access to resources, witnessing or experiencing violence within the family, limited access to positive role models and mentors, substance abuse, including drug and alcohol use. In some communities, Hispanic youth may be susceptible to gang involvement due to various reasons, such as a sense of belonging, protection, or economic opportunities.
In our prevention classes, we help parents identify early signs of violent behavior and provide resources for early intervention.

Mision Despegue is here to support Hispanic parents. We understand the challenges you face, and we’re here to help. Part of our mission is to relieve parents from court fees incurred by juveniles and guide you through the complexities of the criminal justice system.

Young Latino men experience some of the highest rates of gun violence. Gun violence is the leading cause of death for Hispanic male youth ages 15 to 19 and the third leading cause of death for Hispanic male adults ages 20 to 44 (Source: https://giffords.org/)
