Elia Alcala

Elia Alcala is an accomplished teacher, accountant, manager, interpreter,
entrepreneur and loving wife and mother.
Mrs. Alcala is the first born child of immigrant parents in the late 1970s. Her
great-grandfather along with her grandfather and his brothers came from Mexico to work in the tomato fields of California in the 1940s. Her father came to the United States from Mexico at the age of 16 seeking the American dream.
Elia’s mother and father lived in Chicago, Illinois when she was born. She has
always been an advocate for her own human rights and those of others. At the early age of eight Elia met now U. S. Representative Jesse Garcia who is
recognized as a coalition builder between Hispanics and the African American
community. At ten she marched for teachers’ rights.
She graduated from college as a certified public accountant and earned two
master’s degrees in marketing and business. Also her professional preparation
includes English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher certified by Cambridge
University of England.
Mrs. Alcala worked as an ESL teacher in Centro Cultural Lenguas in Mexico for five years, was an accountant for Ronzon Hernandez Associates for three years and taught English at the University of Vasco de Quiroga. Other experiences include working as an assistant manager for Mexicana Airlines and zone manager for Avon Cosmetics and Natura Cosmetics.
Elia has lived in Overland Park, Kansas for four years with her husband and three children. Presently she is a care-giver for her mother and a certified medical English interpreter.
